Many Americans might not have felt major effects from President Donald Trump's sweeping tariffs so far,

but that's about to change. That's because a major shipping loophole, called the de minimis exemption,

expired today.

It allowed shipments of goods worth under $800 to come into the U.S. duty-free,

and the exemption meant Chinese e-commerce sites like Xien, Tehmu, and Ali Express could send

cheap goods to U.S. homes. According to research from UCLA and Yale economists, lower-income households

will suffer the most from the change, with almost half of de minimis packages shipped to the poorest

sip codes of the country. Meanwhile, China says it's, quote, currently assessing proposals by the

U.S. to begin trade talks. It's a subtle tone shift that could open the door for negotiations.

And yesterday, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio told Fox News that Trump's tariffs have

hurt the Chinese economy and that Beijing is eager to talk.

They want to meet, they want to talk.

Obviously our Treasury Secretary, Scott Besson is involved in those efforts, and their talks

will come up soon.

Trump has signed an executive order to end federal funding for NPR and PBS.

It directs the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to stop sending any money to the organizations,

and orders an investigation into possible

employment discrimination.

NPR and PBS are the two biggest public broadcasters in the U.S., and they faced a series

of attacks from the White House and Republican lawmakers, accusing them of biased reporting.
