So this is the Book Review Podcast. I'm Pamela Paul and this is our first time announcing

our 10 best books of the year live in front of an audience as well as to our listeners worldwide.

Before we start to announce the books and talk about them, I want to introduce my panel here

of fellow podcasters. Many of them will be familiar to those of you who listen regularly to the Book

Review Podcast, but I'll tell you a little bit more about them. We have John Williams, who is an

editor on the bookstask. He edits all of our daily critics. He is also a writer for the Times. He

writes the five cues column and many other things and he is known for his great website of your

the second pass. Don, thanks for being here. Lauren Christensen is what we call a preview editor

at the Book Review. One of a full staffs, some of whom are here, but not all. Lauren joined us

after Stins at Manidy Fair and Harper's Bazaar and she also has a master's from Oxford in

Victorian Blitarcher. Greg Cole is our senior editor for books. He is also our poetry editor and

a longtime veteran of the Book Review. Tina Jordan joined us recently after 28 years as the book's

headmistress of Entertainment Weekly Magazine. Emily Aiken also new to the Book Review. She is

another preview editor on our staff after a previous Stins as a reporter for the erstwhile Saturday

idea section of the New York Times and at the New Yorker and editor there. And Gull Beckerman is

the author of When They Come For Us Will Be Gone The Epic Struggle to save Soviet jewellery. He is

a former opinion editor of the forward and he is now a preview editor at the Book Review.
