Yes, yes, the streets. They're full. Full of strange blue people tonight. Come in, come in, come in, unwrap yourselves, grab a drink. It is blue and crazy out there. It is that season, yes, baseball season. And the Chicago Cubs who live just a few

hundred yards north of here, well, look, let me finish the welcome.

Yes, I'm Lauren Santoro, your host for these weekly gatherings here in the flickering darkness.

So get comfortable, grab a chum, have something warm to sip, something pleasant to nibble and settle in. Now, it is already baseball crazy out in the streets. I apologize for that, but for the next six months, another reason why I do not like spring

and summer, end the leading edge of fall, we will have hordes of marauding

suburbanites and packs of vicious fratboys, and given time in a degree the middle management

zombies into which the frat boys inevitably morph on the move and in our hood.

The aforementioned wandering, marauding, morphing mob will snarl and snap

at passers-by. At one another they will dice the death by shuffling in the streets among the cars,

the cabs, the buses, and camera crews. They will litter, puke, and mictorate on the stoop you

have just stood upon to ring the bell and await

my welcome here to the nook then. Then they will evaporate. Go home to the places without pavements

that surround the city, and they will shake their necklace heads and complain bitterly about the dirt and the unfriendliness of Chicago.
