This week, we're pausing our journey in Athens, Ohio for our fiction.

The last time I was in Athens County was for the Ohio Paw Paw Festival at Lake Snowden.

The official state fruit is a tomato, but the official state native fruit is the Pawpaw.

They're interesting, and if you ever have the opportunity to try one, I'd recommend it. But the city of Athens itself will frequently

turn up on lists of the most haunted cities in the country, if not the world, with some

regularity. If you happen to thumb through Chris Woodyard's Haunted Ohio series,

which is seven volumes, you'll find mention of some sort of unusual story about Athens and

everyone. For example, the Moonville Tunnel, which it is said that on some lonely nights,

one can see the swinging lantern of the ghost of a railway man, or Mount Nebo, where a group of

spiritualists led by a man named Jonathan Coons held seances until locals exhausted by the spiritual

occurrences persecuted him and his family out of town. Ohio University's own Wilson Hall, which

has appeared on Fox's show scariest places on

earth about 13 years ago, for its collection of strange stories. I do have to interject to the story that

Ohio University's students tell each other that Wilson Hall sits in the middle of five cemeteries,

all forming a nearly perfect pentagram, is true.

However, when I asked a friend of mine who was more familiar with the area about it,

he remarked that it'd be easy to draw out any shape you wanted using cemeteries in the county
