Thank you again for joining our traveling caravan as we head east towards our new home.

I've taken us on a bit of a detour, and we find ourselves in a rather brisk evening under a waning, give us moon in southern Michigan.

Quite a few years ago, I became fascinated with the state of mental health facilities and

treatments in this country after watching the film when flew over the cuckoo's nest.

First, the social aspect of group therapy that at that time was so popular.

Then, the seemingly barbaric ending of the film, I won't spoil it for any young listeners that haven't

actually seen this wonderful piece of cinema yet, which was still in practice at the time that

the book that it is based on was written. Then, my interest drifted to the Kirkbride buildings,

which are enormous structures that were built specifically to house America's mentally and firm.

I've only visited one of them,

which is still open, and I think it'll be on our way east as well. So we'll talk about it later.

Then I stumbled on a rare book, The Three Christ of Ipslani, written by Milton Rokic, a social psychologist.

The title of the book almost gives the whole story away. Milton discovered

that Ypsilani State Hospital houses three men all claiming to be Jesus Christ. So naturally,

he gets those fellows together and lets them hash it out, since it can't possibly be that all three

of them are God's one and only son. Those men saw only slight improvement and perhaps only temporary improvement,
