This is Tales to Terrify. Good evening, children of the night, and welcome.

Hard to believe we're just a couple weeks away from that most terrifying time of year.

Long lines, snarled traffic, the stresses of rushing to get things done before the break.

If you're one of those rare creatures who enjoys the hustle and bustle of the time of year,

relishes in the frenetic energy and excitement, well, consider

me envious, I suppose. Me, I'm just looking forward to hibernating for a few days, curling up with

a blanket and a good book. But I'm getting ahead of myself. We've still got ground to cover.

This week finds us traveling the state of South Dakota.

As we wind our way south, through the sandy dunes and wind-carved hoodoos of the badlands,

you can't help but appreciate the rugged beauty of this place.

Both harsh and picturesque in equal measure. At times,

the asphalt seems to stretch forever, weaving between mesas and swinging wide around dusty

gulches and ravines, until we finally roll into the Oglala Lakota community of Pine Ridge.

One of the largest reservations in the United States,

Pine Ridge has a pretty rich and often violent history,

the infamous Wounded Knee massacre being probably the most well-known.
