Now that the fall election season is officially underway, that happening after Labor Day officially,

the silliness around benefits, especially Social Security, can get started.

And like the swallows returning to Capistrano, the rain returning to the Great Northwest, every time there's a major election, well, somebody's going to cut your social security benefit and should you pay attention

to that. Now, I'm not going to get into the politics because Lord knows there's plenty of

podcasts, there's plenty of radio shows, there's plenty of TV writing. You want to study about

politics, get into all this. You could spend way more than the next six weeks or so until the

election. Trust me, it's out there. Go ahead. But I am going to talk about Social Security,

the system, and you. Because interestingly enough, there's a group called the Senior Citizens

League. It's a nonpartisan advocacy group for older Americans. I hate to say that

I'm probably part of it, but they do a look every year at what they estimate the increase,

the cost of living increase for Social Security will be in the coming year. They've recently

come out with their estimate that the COLA for 2021 could be

about 1.3 percent, which would be less than the 1.6 percent adjustment made for 2020. Let me give

you just an idea of what that means. 1.3. Today's average Social Security benefit is $1,14 a month,

$1,5,14 a month. At that rate, you're adding about $45 a month. Does that sound like a very big raise?

Boy, I certainly hope it doesn't because it's not.

And Social Security and you absolutely critical, especially if you're over the age of 50.

If you're under it, yeah, I think you should think about what the system may look like when it's time for you to draw on.
