Summary

Back with another powerhouse show, David Simon and George Pelecanos are giving us a look into the corruption of the Baltimore Police Force. If you’re an alum of The Wire, you’ll find similarities in this show’s structure. If you’re not, this podcast episode has helpful insight for understanding the multiple POVs and how this mechanic is what makes Simon shows’ storytelling unique and powerful. There’s a lot to unpack, and this is just the beginning. For further learning on this topic, check out Serial S03E03, and of course the book We Own This City. Hey there! There's gonna be one, the most jarring one

is gonna be preceded by a black screen

that says two years previously.

But you kind of jump around the timeline,

1:05.7

you gotta pay attention to like police reports

1:07.6

that are being typed in front of you

1:08.9

to see like what the POV is, what the date.

1:11.4

It is standard David Simon Pelicano storytelling where they do

1:16.7

throw you kind of into deep end and what want the storytelling and the intrigue to be strong enough to put up to swim, essentially, to not sink.

1:30.0

And I find that really fun. I really like being in a show that makes me kind of like work a

work a sweat and rewards like close watching and and making clever connections

1:41.2

and paying attention to people's faces.

1:43.2

But I also think like a lot of their series,

1:46.0

it's also designed to kind of like if you just let this wash over you
