If you have scripture tonight, we're going to look, obviously, John chapter 16,

it's already been read so well over us, and I love the reading because one, I just love us reading

chapters of scripture, but two, there's so much in John chapter 16, you just can't dig it all out

in one gathering, and so I know as it was read, the Holy Spirit was speaking different things,

I know a lot of you've already been in John 16 earlier, you'll be in it later this week as you go

home from tonight and you kind of read through what we've been digging into, but I just want to lift

up a few themes from this chapter tonight, and what an amazing set of words Jesus is speaking

over us tonight, and he's speaking the kind of words that you need to hear if you live on planet

earth. Now if you don't live on planet earth, then you're good, but if you live on planet earth,

you are so excited about hearing the words that Jesus speaks because he comes to the end of this

chapter and he says the one thing we all want to hear, just to put a little frame around it again

because we're not just reaching into the Bible and sort of putting our finger on verses, but we're

in an chronological story of the life of Jesus, and if you want to get the whole context,

just go back and read chapter 12, 13, 14, and 15, but Jesus has come into Jerusalem,

it's the last few days of his life, and now it's the last night of his life, and in an upper room,

he's gathered his followers, he's washed their feet, they've shared communion, or the last

suppers we call it around a table together, and then he's began to teach them in really clear

in succinct ways what they need to know for the days ahead, and so that's the background

of John 16, and I just want us to wrap our heads around that tonight so that we don't sort of lose

the meaning in Jesus' voice as he's sharing these words in 38 verses from the end of John chapter 16,

Jesus is going to be arrested, 38 verses, and he's seized by the authorities, he's taken to the

high priest's Caiaphas' house, he's beat up and thrown in a dungeon down on the bottom of
