Gordon Chang, at Gordon G. Chang, my colleague and co-host and friend,

we're looking at East Asia the day after, and no one better than Steve Yates of the Heritage Foundation, a senior research fellow for China and national security.

We go right to the most threatened.

That would be Taiwan.

Steve, a very good day to you.

President Trump is reelected, 75 days or so more of the Biden administration

and then a new day for East Asia or not. How do you measure right now Taipei's thinking

about this result, Beijing's thinking about this result, given the threats that Beijing likes

to issue. Good evening to you.

Well, thank you, John. In Taipei, a lot of the leadership across parties in government and

the legislature, they had basically, I think, assumed that the Democrats would hold in some of these areas,

and they might have thought that they would be better off

with their comfortable, long associated friends

that were in the Democrat left.

There will be some of the Taiwanese community

that will be surprised that Senator Sherrod Brown lost in Ohio.

He had been a fairly outspoken friend of Taiwan and the Democratic Party. And so there'll be

some tea leaf reading there. But I think a lot of them were being fed messages from the Taiwanese

American community that were overwhelmingly Democrat and left-leaning.

So they might be a little bit surprised by this outcome.
