You said before we got started, you're out working Matt drills with the guys before this got going. You're going to be able to get through this? They work you too hard? Oh, yeah. I'll be able to get through it, but my voice is going to be a little bit scratchy. Hopefully not be the case when you're calling plays at Davis-Wade Stadium this fall. So let's just get right into it. You took this job as part of Coach Arnett's first staff here at Mississippi State.

Yeah, well, first and foremost, you know, when I was going through this process with Coach Arnett, you know, I had, you know, some

interest from other places, and I've done a couple interviews and talked to people.

You know, and for us in this profession, it's all about the people that you work with.

And, you know, it was very evident to me from the get-go that coach Arnett's passion

and his vision and his direction really aligned with the same beliefs that I had

and you know it was kind of when you know you know and you know early in the process I kind of when you know you know and uh you know early in the process uh i kind of felt like

um you know hey i really want to go work for for coach ornette for this guy and i hung the phone up

and i told my wife i said this this is it this is the one this is the guy guy. And so, you know, really just a line vision

and, you know, felt like our passion and our energy were the same. What did he, Coach Arnett,

talked about being important to him in the hiring process, both from a football perspective

and from a program building perspective.

You know, the things that he kind of talked about were, you know, just being able to be diverse, right? And, you know, not necessarily, you know, running this particular type of offense, you know, um, I thought we both, uh, had, had great vision and, and agreed on, uh, look, you know, the offense, it changes, right? Um, it, you find your best 11 players and you put them on the field and you do what they do best.

You know, I think from an egotistical standpoint, there can be things that, well, we do it this way and this way only, right?
