Good morning, everyone. I'm Kate Baldwin. It's Monday. April 13th. Here are the five things you need to know. Start your day.

Number one, the governor's race. After a weekend of mounting pressure and facing a growing list of serious allegations against him, Democratic Congressman Eric Swalwell is suspending his campaign

and run for governor in California. He announced it in a social media post last night,

writing this in part, I'm deeply sorry for mistakes in judgment I've made in my past.

I will fight the serious false allegations that have been made, but that's my fight, not a campaign.

The allegations, as well I was talking about there, are accusations of sexual assault

and misconduct coming from four women, including a former staffer who accused him of raping

her in 2024.

He denied the allegations.

These allegations of sexual assault are flat, false.

They are absolutely false.

They did not happen.

They have never happened.

And I will fight them with everything that I have.

The Manhattan District Attorney's Office, though, says it is investigating an allegation

of sexual assault against him now.

More than 50 of his former staff members

signed onto a letter calling for him to not only drop his run for governor, but also now resign from

Congress. And there are growing calls from his colleagues in the House, including his own party,

for him to resign. They could move to expel him if he does not.

Number two, the blockade.

U.S. Central Command says that it will begin enforcing President Trump's new order this morning in order to block all shipping to and from all Iranian ports in the Strait of Hormuz.
