0:40.4 | Can you talk about your background and what led you to write Surviving Sun? |
0:44.6 | Yeah, so my background is as an Army veteran. |
0:48.3 | I served between 2005 and 2011. |
0:53.0 | During 2010, I was deployed to Afghanistan and my brother was deployed |
0:58.4 | at the same time. We were both over there at the same time, which a lot of times people feel |
1:03.4 | like that's something that doesn't happen or it shouldn't happen. But it actually does happen |

1:12.4 | But the unique thing about our story is that my brother was killed in action while we're over there, while we both were deployed over there. |

1:24.0 | And after I came home from Afghanistan, I knew that there was a lot of my story that was, that should be told. I wanted to be pulled. But I wasn't quite in a place, you know, mentally in my own head to be able to write a book. But I knew there were certain things that I didn't want to forget. So I began just jotting down notes. And I had a whole long sheet of notes that was just important information I didn't want to forget. |
