Bret speaks with Dr. Julie Ponesse who saw her academic career of 20 years fall apart after she refused to comply with a Canadian university's COVID vaccine mandate.

Dr. Julie Ponesse has a PhD in Philosophy with areas of specialization in ethics and ancient philosophy, a Masters in Philosophy with Collaborative Specialization in Bioethics from the University of Toronto, and a Diploma in Ethics from the Kennedy Institute of Ethics at Georgetown University.

Since then, Dr. Ponesse has joined The Democracy Fund as the Pandemic Ethics Scholar focussing on educating the public on civil liberties and has recently released her new book My Choice: The Ethics Case Against Covid-19 Vaccine Mandates.

0:11.4	processes in the body. There's an intimacy that's broken and invasion into what should be private
0:19.2	by the state. And that's why I think that these healthcare mandates are trespassing or crossing

0:41.3	with Julie Pinesi, who is a doctor of philosophy, ethics, and ancient philosophy, and until this
0:47.8	year was teaching at the University of Western Ontario in the hereon college. Welcome Julie.
0:54.0	Thank you so much. Delighted to be here. Well, I'm very excited to talk to you. I'm a biologist,
1:01.6	as my listeners will know, but I have a deep interest in philosophy, especially the philosophy of
1:08.2	science, but of course all the philosophies are tied together. And this year we have seen the
1:14.3	interaction of the philosophy of science with the questions of ethics. So I'm very much interested
1:20.5	to hear what you have to tell us about the way these things interact. But before you do that,
1:26.0	could you tell us the story of what's happened to you this year? Sure. So until last September,
1:33.6	I taught philosophy, especially ethical theory, applied ethics, history of ethics, ancient philosophy,
1:43.6	political philosophy, history, political philosophy, those kinds of things at Western University
1:48.6	here on college in particular in London, Ontario. And when they started discussing mandates in
1:56.6	the educational sector in the summer, I guess it was. And then we got word about two weeks before
2:02.6	school started that my institution was going to be implementing one of the vaccine mandates.
2:07.6	I wrote to some of the senior administration at here on. So my chair president and dean and
2:13.4	just expressed my concerns. I didn't say that I was opposed to providing proof of vaccination.
2:19.9	I expressed my concerns about the mandate generally speaking. And I didn't get a response
