Summary

Rob gives an inside look at the exotic car industry as he tours the giant GVE London dealership and chats with its dynamic founders about buying, selling, modifying, investing in, and caring for some of the world's most exciting supercars. With over £30 million in inventory on-site, they tackle every angle of this complex business. From waiting lists for the latest Porsche GT3 RS models to the rapid turnarounds possible in supercar sales, from the extreme repair costs of a Bugatti to the future collectability of McLarens, Ferraris and more!

Episode Reveals:

  • Why Porsche ranked #1 in mechanic Bruce's list and McLaren came last!
  • The most stolen car in the UK
  • Which cars are predicted to be million-pound cars in the next few years
  • What the current market is like for sellers and buyers
  • Why you should never judge a book by its cover when it comes to selling cars
  • GVE’s goals for the future
  • Why GVE do everything in-house unlike other exotic dealers

BEST MOMENTS

"There's people breaking their necks just to look at that, doing double takes."

"I think the Bugatti Veyron will probably hit 10 million in the next decade.

"Never judge a book by its cover is, is my point."

“Disruptive means to me, um, you know, going against what you’re being told is the norm."

"Money comes and goes. Money can always come, but help and knowledge, you can't pay for. So, sharing that out is the biggest thing."

"I don't think there's another dealership getting, another supercar dealership that's getting that level of leads."

If I drive down the street, there's people breaking the necks just to look at that, you're doing double takes and whatnot.

David, what is the total stock value of all the cars you have in your showroom?

0:13.6

So at any given time is between 25 to 30 million pounds.

0:17.2

Wow.

0:18.2

And are we near a 25 million today or near a 30 million?

0:21.6

I think in today's market we're near a 30. Reason being

0:24.7

we've just never been so busy with cars coming in into stock. So we do stock, so

0:30.2

we've stopped the showroom in two different ways either we'll buy the cars outright or we're

0:35.2

consigned them and in today's market consigning is really attractive for the consumer.

0:40.9

They just want the most money back in the quickest time possible.

0:44.0

But if I was to buy cars in the trade at the moment,

0:49.0

I'm having to kick people between the legs because it's such an uncertain market with interest rates

0:54.0

going up, the prices have been fluctuating quite a lot so you're just kind of trying to

0:59.3

get the cars into stock as quick as possible.

1:07.0

George, do you think it's a good or a bad time at the moment in the... George, do you think it's a good or a bad time at the moment in the car market?

1:11.0

It depends on who you're asking, I think for the buyer in terms of the

1:15.7

consumer or the seller. So for the buyer it's an amazing time because you're

1:19.2

getting cars for like we were discussing earlier almost a hundred thousand pounds cheaper than what they were going for a year ago.

1:25.0

For the seller, unfortunately, let's say someone who's bought a G63 for 50,000 pounds over list,

1:31.0

they are going to be crying right now in in today's

1:33.8

market because you can now walk into Mercedes and buy a brand new G63 for

1:38.0

ten thousand pounds underlist. Like it used to be. Yeah like it used to be in the older generation or even when the later generation was just released.
