I'm Elizabeth Slattery and welcome to SCOTUS 101, where we break down what's happening at the Supreme Court, what the justices are up to, and other things related to our favorite branch of government.

This is a special summer session edition of SCOTUS 101, and in this episode we're going to talk about the long-awated Kavanaugh confirmation hearing.

So Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation hearing was this week, and it was a bit of a circus.

On the first day, Chairman Chuck Grassley barely got a word in before Senator Kamala Harris interrupted,

saying they needed to delay the hearing so the Democrats could review additional documents

from Kavanaugh's record that had been released to the committee the evening before.

There were also more than 60 protesters who were arrested the first day.

There were some women dressed up like they were from the handmaid's tail.

And later in the week, a White House staffer and former Kavanaugh clerk who sat behind the nominee was accused of flashing a white power symbol, some real highlights of the week.

And then on his final day before the committee, a dozen or so of the girls from his basketball teams from over the years, came to show up and show their support for the nominee.

But anyway, let's get into some of the highlights of the week.

So first up, we had Cory Booker and his I Am Spartacus moment and the leaked or maybe not leaked documents.

So Tom, get us up to speed on what happened there.

I'm sorry, I can't help laughing. I wasn't even sure. I mean, I had heard of Spartacus,

but I wasn't even sure what he was talking about. Senator Booker, of course, announced his opposition to Kavanaugh on July 9. So that was almost 60 days ago. So he obviously didn't say that in the

hearing, but that puts in a little different perspective, all of the demands for documents

and the desire for more information. It's like none of that information, none of the process

meant anything to him when he already made up his mind 60 days ago.
