long, very strange journey, but on Tuesday, San Diego officially was announced as an NWSL

expansion team with Jill Ellis leading the way as the club's president. Most of what became on public on Monday we had already reported here at the athletic.

Obviously, the board did approve the territorial move from Sacramento as originally planned to San Diego.

Ellis's involvement playing out of Torero Stadium, but Ellis hasn't confirmed her head coach yet for the team, though we are pretty sure it is Casey Stony.
