The countdown to Ramadan gets ever closer and still no sign of a breakthrough deal.

We'll be speaking to someone who knows all the issues around this better than most,

and who knows may even play a role in deciding some of them in the future.

It's unholy. I'm Jonathan Friedland of The Guardian in London.

And I'm Unite Leady of Channel 12 in television.

Unholy, two Jews on the news, a deadline of sorts fast approaching the month of Ramadan, right

around the quarter, March 11th. Always this moment, obviously in the Muslim world, a moment

of fasting and contemplating, but in this area specifically in this year specifically,

something that can create a lot of tension there was this hope jonathan of course particularly by the united states that this will bring a

ceasefire and of course the release of the israeli hostages still being held by khamas but it does

seem at this moment that

Ichisunwa, the leader of Hamas and Gaza, is more interested in sort of spreading violence,

his attempts to spread violence to East Jerusalem and to the West Bank to make this, what he

wanted to make it in the first place, five months ago, all out war against Israel.

Yeah, we've been saying that in some ways for him there has been disappointment that this didn't spread and escalate across the

whole region. He got some, you know, some rockets from Hisbalah fired on the north. Many

Israelis displaced because of that, having to evacuate those border towns.

The Houthis from Yemen firing rockets onto Red Sea naval traffic, maritime traffic.

But otherwise, the kind of regional conflagration that didn't happen.

And who knows, maybe he sees Ramadan as his last shot at that.

Alongside the reporting that that's what Hamas once have been signals

that Israel has basically accepted more or less the deal. There are, you know, there was some
