Welcome to the Optimal Protein Podcast. I'm Vanessa Spina.

0:04.6

Hello, my friends. Welcome back to the podcast. I am so excited for today's episode.

0:09.3

We have a scientist with us today, Dr. Philip Prince, who's actually been studying low-carb performance.

0:15.6

And his research findings are absolutely fascinating. We talk about whether or not you can perform as well

0:23.0

being fat fueled and being on a low carbohydrate diet versus being on a high carb diet and

0:30.6

being glucose fueled which is basically the dogma in sports nutrition is that you

0:36.2

will not perform well without carbs and his research

0:39.4

has been really proving quite the opposite. So I am super excited to get into today's episode with

0:45.8

Dr. Prince. I know many of you enjoy sports are athletic and athletically minded or you are just

0:53.8

interested in having a greater health span,

0:57.0

avoiding getting pre-diabetes and obesity.

1:00.0

We talk about all of these topics on this episode today and some really fascinating aspects of sports nutrition,

1:07.0

including what he found about athletes who were on high-carb diets and how he found that they

1:12.7

had extremely high average blood glucose levels showing pre-diabetes or even diabetes in these

1:20.4

athletes, which completely goes against what I think many people believe is that if you are

1:25.2

eating a very high-carb diet or a high-carb diet and you are an athlete, it's that if you are eating a very high carb diet or a high carb diet and you are an

1:28.9

athlete, it's fine because you are burning off all of that glucose from your activity. And yet it

1:36.4

looks like that may not actually be true. And this is, I think, really, really fascinating information.

1:42.8

So I can finally have research studies proving that being fat-fueled or doing a low-carb diet

1:50.0

will not impair your athletic performance.

1:53.0

And I'm so excited to talk to the researcher who has actually looked at this in his studies in particular.

2:00.4

So I hope that you're going to get a ton of takeaways from today's episode with Dr. Prince.
