The doctrine of the Lord is important, so we're going to be studying the words of Jesus.

John 14, if you have ever had the opportunity to observe Jewish society,

you know that social relationships among traditionally Jewish people,

the 12 tribes, are much, much different than they are in our American

Anglo-Saxon cultural world. We Anglo-Saxons tend to be reserved and controlled. We have these

cultural mores about courtesy and forbearance and so forth and so on. A lot of that comes out of

the Christian ethos, and it's good.

In Jewish culture, let's put it this way.

It's not uncommon for them to raise their voices.

It's not uncommon for them to kind of let somebody know when they're unhappy about something

in the most vociferous way. They wave their

arms. I'll never forget when we were in Israel, the word that you would hear on the street

more often than any other word, and I'm sure this is still true, if you're walking around Jerusalem,

you hear Sliha, Slecha, which which is Hebrew for excuse me, except it doesn't

mean excuse me. It means you get out of my way or you're going to find yourself flat on your

back. And I mean little old Jewish ladies 80 years old. Don't get in their way. Don't get between

them and the door of the bus.

You hear people arguing with each other on the streets. I mean, good friends, and they just love
