Matthew 24 is one of those chapters in the Bible.

It gets read and reread and read and reread, and we're going to read it again today.

And as we do, I want to remind us once again of the three rules of Bible interpretation.

Sort of like the three rules of purchasing interpretation, sort of like the three rules of

The three rules of Bible study are context, context, and context. And that is never more true than in Matthew 24. The context is

everything in Matthew chapter 24. In Matthew 23, which we looked at last week and the

week before, Jesus completely cut himself off from the leaders of national Israel in one fell swoop.

He pronounced eight woes over them, followed by the lamentation over Jerusalem.

But in verse 34, and I wanted to look at this again, in verse 34 of Matthew 23, he said to these leaders of Israel, whom he referred to as

dragons and poisonous snakes, he says, how can you escape the damnation of hell? Wherefore,

behold, I send unto your prophets, wise men, scribes, and some of them you shall kill and crucify
