We've been in Revelation 13 now for about three weeks.

And last week we started just by reading the 13th chapter of Revelation,

which we could do again.

We could probably do this every Sunday for the next year.

There is enough there to keep us going.

But what I wanted to do was continue what we talked about last week. The beast out of the sea represents one of the oldest prophecies in the Bible.

Revelation 13, I stood upon the sand of the sea and saw a beast rising up out of the sea,

having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns, ten crowns, and upon his heads the name

of blasphemy.

Now, in pure raw terms, this beast out of the sea is the sea monster, and he is called Tannin in the Old

Testament.

And the sea monster is a figure that really goes back into the early, early, early parts of every

culture on earth, way back before Babylon, the days of Nimrod, the idea of the sea

monster, even before the flood in the book of Enoch, you encounter the idea of the sea monster,

and he is imbued or invested with certain kinds of powers, and in prophecy, he grows in power until at last he is destroyed.

This is called the octomas in Jewish lore, the story of how the sea monster will eventually be killed.

And so John brings it into revelation through this vision.

I stood upon the sand and the sea, and of course the sand of the sea, representative of the people, the sea, the multitudes, the nations.
