Starting in the season of the Day of the Resurrection and then going through the Jewish

calendar headed for Pentecost, I started studying the words of Jesus at the time of his

death, burial, resurrection, and after that we sort of moved to other areas.

There are really three areas when you study the words of Jesus that are key to his life.

His trial, crucifixion, and resurrection is key.

His coming as king, which we looked at last week in the Beatitudes, is key.

And then today we're going to look at his rejection, which is key to his life.

If you look at the book of Matthew and look at the pattern,

Jesus was tempted of Satan before his public ministry.

The last week we studied Matthew 5, verses 1 through 12, the Beatitudes.

What he was doing, the Beatitudes, was pronouncing nine blessings upon the house of David.

He then proceeded to point out to those who were listening to him that they were the salt

of the earth, that he was the fulfillment of the law.

He began to talk about classic legal issues like murder and adultery and divorce

and the taking of oaths, the making of contracts,

which had always been under the control of the Mosaic law,

and he began to lecture people in Matthew chapter 5 on how that was all going to change.

He began to talk about things like revenge, retaliation, which was a huge part of Jewish society,
