And now, here's Gary.

So we looked at this letter last week, and after the meeting, somebody came to me and said,

you know what? You did not discuss a very key verse in this epistle, and it happens to be the

second verse. What does that mean? And what I answered this individual at the time was, well, I deliberately

passed over that because that one verse will take an hour. And it's the second verse. Right after

Paul identifies himself as a servant of God, an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith

of God's elect, and the acknowledging of the truth, which is after godliness, he says,

in hope of eternal life, which God that cannot lie promised before the world began.

Now, what does that mean before the world began? What are we really talking about?

And here we embark upon a study that we could devote, I suppose, a year to, and at the end of the year, we would not really understand everything we had covered.

But it's important to cover it anyway.

Titus is there fighting the good fight on Crete.

He's instructed by Paul to impart the idea of the blessed hope,

that is, the blessed hope of eternal life at Christ's coming. He had a tough job because he was

sent among materialists, and these materialists were lazy glutton's. As Paul says, that's what

Cretans are. They're just lazy glutton's.

Well, what are lazy gluttons?

Lazy glutton's are materialists.

They are people who gauge reality by what's happening now.
