had retired after nearly a quarter of a century as chief investigator for the district attorney

in Glen County. Before that, he'd served seven years as a Glen County police officer.

In spite of those decades in law enforcement, Greg McMichol on that day was doing something

that in the final months of his career he had been ordered not to do.

In February 2019, state authorities had stripped Greg McMichol of his powers of arrest.
