From CNN, I'm Josh and Sharna with The Five Things You Need to Know for Friday, December 5th.

Yesterday, Congress held closed-door briefings about September's double-tap strike of an alleged drug trafficking boat,

and CNN has some exclusive reporting. According to three sources with direct knowledge of the briefings,

the two men hit in the

second strike were floating and holding onto their capsized boat and did not appear to

have communications devices.

This information goes against arguments that defense officials have been quietly pushing,

namely that the two men were legitimate targets because they appeared to be radioing for help

or backup.

But the lawmakers who were in yesterday's congressional briefing came away with very different

opinions on what they saw and heard.

For example, here's Democrat Jim Himes.

Any American who sees the video that I saw will see the United States military attacking shipwrecked sailors.

Bad guys, bad guys, but attacking shipwrecked sailors.

And here's the Republican chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Tom Cotton.

The first strike, the second strike, and the third and the fourth strike on September

2nd were entirely lawful and needful.

But as scrutiny over the U.S.'s military involvement in the Caribbean escalates,

there's now been another strike on a boat in the eastern Pacific, killing four people.

That's according to a social media post from U.S. Southern Command.
