new music with a surprise collaboration. It's from Molina D'Aterte, the artist known as J-SOM.

She's worked on a new project with Annie Truska. Annie is the bassist and chastity belt.

They call the project Routine, and I have an EP of songs coming this week. It's called

And Other Things. I ask Molina and Annie to tell me something about this project,

and then I'll play this song that I truly love called Kady Road.

Routine was born out of an opportunity to spend a month in Joshua Tree.

Our friend Lisa has an artist residency stay at a house and extended and invite to us for a week

in April. But when the pandemic hit, she offered us her place for over a month.

Annie started writing songs right when we got there, and it was her first time writing fully

realized songs, and I happily engineered and produced them. We feel really grateful for the space

that allowed us to create during such a weird and uncertain time.

Kady Road was actually the first song I wrote when we got Joshua Tree. We set up the recording

gear the day after we drove there, and I spent the morning outside drinking coffee and playing

guitar, and the song came pretty quickly. When I showed it to Molina, we started jamming on it,

and ended up recording the instrumentals that same day. I went on walks every day while we were

there as a way to calm my mind. It was early in the pandemic, and I felt a huge mix of sadness

and anxiety for the future. I often get overwhelmed and overthink things, and the song kind of serves
