0:24.0 | So let's get straight into it. Stillbirth is defined as the birth of a dead fetus after 24 weeks |
0:31.9 | gestation. Stillbirth is the result of intrauterine fetal death, or IUFD. |
0:39.9 | It occurs in approximately 1 in 200 pregnancies. |

0:46.2 | Many of the conditions that can affect pregnancy increase the risk of stillbirth. |

1:43.5 | and when the mother sleeps on the back as opposed to sleeping |
1:46.5 | on her side. Next let's talk about the prevention of stillbirth. A risk assessment for having a |
1:54.2 | baby that is small for gestational age or with a fetal growth restriction is performed on all pregnant women. |
2:02.6 | Having risk factors for small for gestational age increases the risk of stillbirth. |
2:08.2 | Those at higher risk have the fetal growth monitored closely with serial growth scans |
2:14.0 | using ultrasound scans every two to four weeks to measure the growth of the fetus. |
2:19.8 | This helps identify women that need further investigations and management. |
2:25.2 | They may need planned early delivery when the growth is static or other concerns are identified |
2:30.9 | on the growth scans. Women at risk of preeclampsia are given aspirin. |
