I welcome Mary Kessel, Executive Vice President Stevens Incorporated,

former senior advisor to the Secretary of State many years in Hong Kong,

before the city was crushed, reporting for the Wall Street Journal

editorial page. We turn now to information from the Gaza War that is

fresh and challenging. I read from the Jerusalem Post, Dateline May 11th.

On May 6th, the UN published data showing that 34,735 people have reportedly been killed in Gaza, including

over 9,500 women and over 14,500 children.

On May 8th, the UN published data showing 34,844 people had reportedly been killed, including 4,959 women and 7,797 children.

I've done the math, that's a 50%% reduction and that's just the first iteration of

clarification of these numbers that have been used including by the White House

for months about the casualties in Gaza.

Fog of war explains everything, but then again, these numbers have been used as a weapon

to create the conditions that leave the U.S. and Jerusalem at odds and

undermine the credibility of everyone in the region but especially fuel the turmoil at major universities and across the nation, led by young people who perhaps

don't need to understand but now do that propaganda works.

Mary, your comment on this, you were at state for a long time.

There are filters very carefully built over years in the hands of civil servants, not all political appointees,

that are meant to keep this business out of the news.

How did those filters fail us in Washington?
