the Financial Times tells a story. However, it permits us also a window on the European

Union nearly a year into the conflict in Ukraine. It is a European war, a global north

war, a global war. I welcome Mary Kissel, the executive vice president, Stevenson

corporate former senior adviser to the Secretary of State. And before that many years in Asia

for the Wall Street Journal to comment first on the European Union struggles with the war,

with energy, with the prosperity in doubt because of the recovery. And then we'll comment

on China and its so-called reopening. The headline, Poland asked Germany for permission to

send leopard tanks to Ukraine. Subhead, Financial Times, move increases pressure on Chancellor

Ulf Schultz to bolster Kieps fight against Russian forces. Mary, this is a story about

the European Union. And the question is, does the European Union mean to stay in the fight

in Ukraine? Has it, at this point, signal its reluctance is uniform and its contribution

is to struggle without energy sources from Russia? Do we actually watch the European Union's

military wing in order to know about the fight before or is this entirely an American story?

Good day to you, John. As you were talking, I was recalling the 2003 statement by then

Defense Secretary Don Rumsfeld, when he said that Europe could be broken into quote

old and new categories, old Europe and new Europe. He was right then that Europe was not

a unified polity. And you're right today pointing out those same divisions, the nations

that border Russia or that were subject to Soviet domination and understand the character

of Russian expansionism are deeply alarmed and doing everything they can to arm the Ukrainians
