Summary

Since its rise to international acclaim, the multi-award-winning "Have You Heard George’s Podcast?" has remained famously undefinable. In its explosive new season, however, this finally changes, as George the Poet pieces together fragments of the African and Caribbean independence struggles. Poignant tales of strength and sacrifice frame some of the most important yet least discussed events of the last six decades, from the perspective of history’s unsung heroes. George's verses flow over an evocative soundtrack, composed by long-time collaborator Benbrick, and brought to life by the BBC Concert Orchestra in Abbey Road. The season is peppered with timeless music from all corners of Black life - from Africa to the Caribbean and beyond. The fourth season of HYHGP? brings to light the hidden tragedies and triumphs that have shaped our world.

We're back, we're back, we're back. I missed you a lot, man. I really did. I think the last time I

0:15.6

chatted to you a lot, I was about to get married. I'm now a two-year veteran. Bigot my wife, Sandra. And I'm

0:22.4

also a father. Bigot our baby boy. Obviously the world right now is in a state of flux. And we're here to talk

0:34.7

about it. All right, so this is the way we're going to do it. I'm going to run through the official

0:39.8

series description. I'm going to break down what is going on in this season. All right, let's go. Since it's

0:48.1

rise to international acclaim, come on. The multi-award women have you heard George's podcast has

0:54.2

remained famously undefinable. In its explosive new season, however, this finally changes as George

1:00.5

the poet pieces together fragments of the African and Caribbean independence struggles. What does that

1:07.8

mean? Basically, I've been looking more and more into the 60s, 70s and the 80s to really understand

1:15.8

what happened between the time when my parents were born and the time when I was born that led to

1:23.0

black life being in the condition that I found it in. What happened? So I wanted to look at a couple

1:30.2

snapshots of some of those experiences and see what we can learn. So let's get back to the

1:37.7

series description. Poignant tales of strength and sacrifice frame some of the most important

1:45.1

yet least discussed events of the last six decades from the perspective of history's unsung

1:51.9

heroes. You know what? I do want to give a disclaimer. I don't think it's good to analyze history

1:59.9

through heroes, through singular tales of once in a lifetime people that did amazing things which

2:07.9

genuinely did do in the case of the subjects of some of my episodes. But I do think it's useful when

2:15.9

you can tell a story of a time in history through someone that is, you know, widely recognized,

2:23.5

even if they are debated and even if they are under acknowledged for their contributions

2:28.8

to history. Boom! Well, yeah. George's verses flow over an evocative soundtrack composed by

2:36.8

longtime collaborator Ben Brick and brought to life by the BBC Concert Orchestra. Big up those

2:43.0

guys because what? When I first approached Ben Brick about this podcast, I said I have a vision of
