City with you for this first lecture of the Temistic Institute.

I understand that when the invitation was made, I was told that I could lecture in English,

that most of you understand English.

And I am most certain that your English is certainly better than my Spanish.

So we'll proceed in English,

and I hope that it's intelligible and understandable.

As Emilio said, we're gonna speak this evening

of St. John Paul II's Theology of the Body

and its foundation in the thought of St. Thomas Aquinas,

which 20 years ago was probably a more

salacious or contested argument than it is today. How many of you are aware of what the

theology of the body is, of what John Paul's theology of the body is? Has anyone read anything

of the theology of the body? So a little read anything of the Theology of the Body?

So a little bit, yeah. So yeah, a little bit more. Good. This is good. It's okay. Don't be

embarrassed. It's okay. So the theology of the body really became a sort of locus of Christian

and certainly Catholic theological and philosophical thought

beginning in the early 1990s, even though it had been around already for about 10 years.
