This morning came the dreadfully sad news as Tottenham confirmed the passing of our legendary

striker Jimmy Greaves on a day where appropriately we would be playing his first club Chelsea.

Unfortunately, I never saw Jimmy play, but I grew up hearing the names of Blanchflower,

Jones, White, McCuy, and more than any other Jimmy Greaves who was my dad's idol.

Even today, every striker he compares unfavorably to Jimmy.

Jimmy could have joined us in 1955, but an illness to the late great Arthur Row saw him slip through

the club's fingers and allowed him to join Chelsea, and it was for them that he made his lead debut

against Tottenham at White Heartline in August 1957. Jimmy that day did what he always did on

debut scored as Chelsea and Tottenham played out a 1-1 draw on the opening day of the season.

He scored 132 goals for Chelsea in just 169 games before he left to join AC Belan.
