Let's get to today's devotional with our friend

The men's and women's NCAA tournament has been great so far with many tight and competitive matchups.

As fans, we root for buzzer beaters and overtime games.

For coaches and players, though, their goal is to put away their opponent convincingly.

They love a good blowout.

The key for these winning teams is not letting their opponent hang around and when they do get

the big lead, not allowing their opponent to catch up or get close by being careless or cocky

or lackadaisical. Even when teams pull away early, they can't just think that they're in the

clear and then lose focus or not try as hard.

Instead, winning teams need to keep their foot on the gas, continue to distance themselves,

and destroy their opponent.

The last thing they want to do is give the other team a chance to get back in the game.

As we reflect on the way teams look to put away their opponent and advance to

the next round in the tournament, there's a parallel to how we as followers of Jesus put away sin

in our lives. Thankfully, Jesus sacrificed his life on the cross on our behalf, saving those who put

their trust in him from the penalty of

sin, which is death. He also put away the power of sin, as Hebrews 926 tells us, he came once for

all at the end of the age to put away the power of sin forever by dying for us. When we place our faith
