0:16.6	Jesus in partnership with Americans United. The series is called One Nation All Beliefs
0:23.4	and it's about the separation of church and state. I know the separation of church and
0:27.7	state for many of you is a key issue, something that you fight for, something you think about
0:32.9	a lot, and something you know has a significant impact on your personal and public life. For
0:39.3	others of you you might be wondering, well why separation of church and state? There's
0:42.7	so many things happening in this country that demand our attention, reproductive rights,
0:48.4	protecting gender and sexual identities. Thinking about school curricula, banned books that
0:55.3	take over of school boards all over the place. Well one thing that Americans United and
1:01.9	us here at straight white American Jesus recognizes that the separation of church and state is the
1:07.1	foundation for all of those issues because unless we have the separation of church and state
1:13.2	we cannot have a fair government that works for all people. There's a new pledge at Americans
1:24.1	United and the mantra for that pledge is One Nation All Beliefs meaning that we should have
1:29.9	a government that is free from religion so that people of all beliefs whether religious or not
1:35.9	are free to exercise them in equal ways. On this series you're going to hear clergy, you're
1:45.5	going to hear activists, you're going to hear non-profit leaders, trans pastors, secular rabbis,
1:51.5	queer black ministers. All talking about how the separation of church and state is the basis for
1:58.9	protecting the things that we care about the most. I conducted these interviews at the Summit
2:04.9	for Religious Freedom in Washington DC which was hosted by Americans United. I had a chance to sit
2:10.4	down with 12 different people over the course of the weekend. So as you listen you may hear plates
2:15.6	ringing in the background and conversations happening you're going to hear a conference that was in
2:20.6	full swing. It was a dynamic time when people from all backgrounds came together to recognize the
