Summary

In this podcast, J. Warner talks about the habit many of us of speaking Christianese, the distinctive (and often confusing) language of the Christian faith. How can we learn to communicate important Christian concepts without sounding like we’re speaking Greek? Jim also discusses the dangerous consequences resulting from low expectations when sharing what we believe with people who seem to be completely uninterested.

podcast. I'm Jay Warner Wallace. This week we're going to return to kind of an

0:47.4

on again off again series that we do related to evangelism. I'm hoping that some of these

0:51.2

materials we've written about and some of the stuff we talk about here on the podcast will be helpful for you if you are sharing what you believe with the people in your life. I mean after all, we talk about case-making a lot here on the podcast, and I suppose in

1:06.4

some ways we can get caught up in just the sound of our own voice or the strength of our arguments

1:10.5

or making the case for the sake of making the case, to show how smart we are but in the end I would hope

1:15.7

That we do all of that so we can knock down some of the barriers that people build up that prevent the gospel from being heard to begin with. I mean in the end I hope that our case-making is really

1:27.3

a form of evangelism. It's an integral part of our sharing our story and our sharing the story of God and sharing the

1:36.6

truth of salvation through Christ. So I mean this is why we do apologetics while we do Christian case making so occasionally

I will spend some time talking about just experiences that I've had good or bad mostly bad

because you learn from those things we always talk talk about wisdom, right? How do you get

1:54.4

wisdom and how do you become a wise person? And you know as well as I do that 99% of the time

2:00.6

wisdom is gleaned from stupid mistakes. That sense that you say I'm not

2:06.3

going to do that again I'll never do that again or boy I've been there before I

2:09.2

won't go back there again. These are statements of wise people because they made these mistakes and

2:14.1

now they can impart the rest of us their wisdom I've got I can tell you an advance

2:19.3

what the pitfalls are and of course you know when we make mistakes ourselves, we learn from that, but, you know,

2:26.1

we're not the only ones. We don't have to make our own mistakes in order to be wise.

2:29.5

We can just observe the mistakes of others.
