I've been growing winter squashes for as long as I can remember.

And no wonder, from a single seed comes an enormous plant,

And the best bit is that they last for months on end.

Every year we harvest four or five really big ones in October and we've rarely worked

our way through them before February. And the other best bit is that they're easy to grow.

Give them good, rich soil with plenty of organic matter, a lot of sun, not too much wind,

plenty of water and it really is quite hard to go wrong. Every year I start them off around late April or early May,

sewing two seeds per 7 centimetre pot in good quality seed compost,
