Monica, or Mona, as she was called, was born August 13, 1950, and raised in Belcourt, North Dakota on the Turtle Mountain

Band of the Chippewa Reservation. She was from a big family and was one of 10 children

who were all very close. Monica was spunky, always singing and dancing, and she just kind of drew you in with her energy.

She was one of those girls.

I like those people.

Exactly.

Monica played the piano and had a beautiful singing voice. Can't relate.

And according to her daughter, Tanya, she'd start singing and it would just put everyone who heard it at ease.

So like basically Ariel and the little mermaid. Right. She married and had two children, Tanya and her brother, but the marriage did not last, sadly.

They did remain friendly and were co-parents.
