the so-called toxic woman. But first, in 1976, a terrifying series of crimes began in New York City.

Young couples and women with long dark hair were being shot, apparently at random. They were being

shot with 44 caliber bullets, so the press dubbed their attacker the 44 caliber killer.

Soon, however, the killer gave himself a new name, The Sun of Sam. In August of 1977, 44 years

ago this month, David Berkowitz was arrested for the crimes. The press began reporting that he'd

been given his orders to kill by a 6,000 year old spirit in a dog named Sam. Berkowitz confessed
