Well, hello there. My name is Morgan Harper-Nichols. I'm an artist and a writer, and this is a space where I share words that I hope can make a little room for you to slow down and take a few deep breaths as you prepare for whatever lies ahead. Thanks for being here today. And now on to today's episode.

Here's something that I want everyone to know. Just because something isn't simple for you,

0:40.8

that doesn't make you a failure. So many people use the phrase, it's simple to describe things that come easy for them. Some people use the phrase, it's simple to describe how they organize

0:47.6

their closet or how they got over a breakup. It's simple. I just did this and that. It's simple. I just do this. I just do that.

0:56.9

And when you hear someone describes something as simple or easy for them and if it doesn't feel

1:03.0

simple to you, it may make you feel like you failed. It's like why is this simple for this other person?

1:12.7

But it's so difficult for me.

1:20.4

How is this so easy for everyone else? But for me, it's just not that simple. For everything in life, it doesn't matter if it has to do with how you plan out your week, prepare your meals,

1:25.3

hang out with friends, or navigate life's most intense challenges.

1:30.8

There is something that feels difficult for some, but it's simple for someone else.

1:38.7

I know for me, for the most part, making art is pretty simple. It's pretty simple for me because even though I deal

1:48.1

with self-doubt and having an inner critic, I really enjoy the process of making art. I feel like a

1:56.3

big kid a lot of the time, just playing with paint with colors it's something that i enjoy and when i

2:03.7

look back on it even though there are some challenges i consider it something in my life that feels simple

2:09.5

just wake up every day and paint something scribble on a page make something new just have fun

2:15.3

experiment it's simple however this concept of simplicity in my life,

2:22.0

it kind of stops right there. Something as routine as going to the grocery store,

2:28.5

it's anything but simple for me. I have real anxiety around picking out the right food, getting the best food,

2:36.8

getting enough food for the right price, and so on. And I walk through every aisle, no less than

2:42.8

two times each, and end up having to circle back again and again because I can't remember

2:47.6

where the items are in relation to each other. And no matter how many

2:52.1

times I go to the grocery store, no matter how many times I go to the same grocery store
