Everybody counts or nobody counts.

Today a lot of people know that as the mantra of Michael Connelly's fictional detective Harry

Bosch.

But the truth is a lot of real life detectives live by those words too.

Detectives like the one you're about to meet, Idle Opens.

Idle was working albacurky missing persons, kind of a backwater in a lot of police departments.

And she realized that some local women had gone missing, and almost no one had noticed.

These were women existing on the edges of society, women who worked the streets, living a life

few would envy.

It was one that put them nightly at significant risk.

Idle started asking questions, then came a lucky rainstorm, and from it a torrent of

clues.

Sometimes Idle Opens simply can't wait for Sunday.

Sometimes in the middle of her work week, the albacurky detective feels a pressing need

for spiritual solace and divine guidance.

The fall of 2005 was one of those times.

It was a time when a sinister force seemed to be snatching women off the streets of New

Mexico's largest city.

And the devoutly religious detective knew she needed all the help she could get.

I think it's somebody who is very organized.

I think he's been praying on his victims.
