John, every month, NOAA publishes an updated graph giving us the last month's activity

1:06.4

of the Sunspots on the Earth-facing hemisphere of the Sun. That's how they count these.

1:12.0

And for almost the entire ramp up to solar maximum, it's probably going to occur in 2025.

1:20.4

The number of Sunspots and the activity on the Sun has been much higher than the prediction,

1:24.7

much higher. However, since January, there had been kind of a pause. The Sunspot did not

1:32.2

ramp up anymore. It was kind of stabilized at a certain number over six months. It just

1:37.6

wasn't going down a little, go up a little, go down a little, but it just was staying

1:41.5

at a middle level, which implied possibly that maybe we were not going to head to much

1:46.5

stronger maximum than predicted. But nope, in December, there was a gigantic burst of

1:53.0

activity for the month. And in fact, the amount of activity in December on the Sun was the

2:00.3

most we've seen on the Sun in September 2014, which was near the end of the previous

2:07.0

maximum. And in fact, the amount of activity that occurred in December almost matched the

2:12.4

maximum expected three years hence in 25. This very strongly implies that the next maximum

2:19.8

of the Sun is going to be a strong one. When we're at minimum of the science, fellow

2:24.8

science community, a few of those scientists get together at a panel at NOAA and they make

2:30.0

their prediction. They made a prediction. And this is the largest number of solar scientists.
