Solomon closes the book of Ecclesiastes with these words.

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter.

Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.

Each of us have been given only one life. What will we do with it? Life. It's not a game.

That's the perspective in the Song of Solomon. He wrote Proverbs, that amazing book,

filled with so much wisdom from God, really at about middle age. I would say at the peak

of his leadership, the pinnacle of his life.

But he wrote the book of Ecclesiastes as an old man.

An old man at the end, looking back, filled with regrets because he had tried so many things

that did not work because they weren't God's way.

I'm learning, as I get a little older, that there is wisdom with age.

The book of Proverbs even talks about the hoary head or the gray hair that's found in

the way of righteousness.

Well, that was Solomon. Solomon was

the aged man, the man with the gray hair, but unfortunately he had not always followed the way of

righteousness. And so now he gives us this book of Ecclesiastes as a warning.
