This is CBS Eye on the World. I'm John Bachelorette. The American economy, the global economy,

the question all asking all the time. Is there a recession imminent? Are we in a recession

now? I welcome Gene Marks, the small business columnist for the Guardian newspaper, the

UK edition and the US edition, as well as our hometown newspaper, the Philadelphia

Inquirer. Gene has just arrived from the United Kingdom, where the good news is, the

United Kingdom has avoided the recession. They had believed that it had already started,

just barely, but they avoided it. The question here is, are we avoiding the recession?

What to make of the jobs number just reported, more than 500,000 jobs added in January? Is

it possible to have a recession and have that jobs growth? Have everybody working?
