I'm John Batch with my colleague Gene Marks back from the road and Gene proposes to answer

a question that I see was asked routinely and Bloomberg, why start up a business when

you can buy one?

Gene, you made this clear to me the last few years that the average age of small business

owners in America is senior, not quite as senior as I am, but somewhere between

55 and 70, somewhere in there and they're looking to sell or let their employees take over.

So the idea here is there's lots for sale you should look.

Do I say that all correctly?

Have I learned from you correctly?

You do and their reports coming out from that as well and people are looking back, you

know, on this, I've written about this before as well.

See, there's two big demographic trends going on in the country right now, the vast majority

of people that own businesses are getting older and they're hitting that time where they're

really looking at succession plans and exiting their businesses and it's a big thing on their

minds.

At the same time, there's millennials that John, you and I have been making fun of for the

past 10 years, but they're older.

I mean, the upper limit of those millennials are, you know, 40 now, you know?

So these are people that have been in the workplace now for a bit and, you know, quite many

of them naturally they get nudged, they want to be their own boss and go out on their

own.
