Summary

Once society became convinced that you could build skyscrapers without them immediately collapsing, cities across the United States -- and, soon the world -- scrambled to build their own structures. In part two of this two-part series, Ben, Noel and Max explore the continuing race to build the tallest, the strongest, and the most iconic skyscrapers.

Let's jump right in. The home insurance building did not just stand up on its own. It became a symbol, something that stood for

an entire architectural movement. We loosely call this the Chicago school and this gave birth to

all of those amazing skyscrapers in Chicago from the late 19th to the early 20th century.

And if you go to Chicago now and you go downtown or you're around the loop,

it's still very much a skyscraper city. You can take the little architectural river tour and they take down the boat and they go.
