Summary

Skinnytok is a side of TikTok where users talk about weight loss and give dieting advice. Although skinnytok may be helpful for some, it has caused extreme harm to others. Skinnytok often promotes extreme weight loss methods and unhealthy behaviors associated with eating disorders. In today’s episode, I talk about my opinion on toxic diet culture and my experience with an eating disorder.

My intention with today’s episode is to remind you that you’re more than your body. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to take care of yourself, move your body, or eat healthy, but don’t let it be at the expense of your mental health or relationship with food or your body.

Hello, welcome to her welcome back to Trinna Take Care. Why did I just say that like Jeffrey Starr?

Welcome back to my YouTube channel. Welcome back to trying to care. If you're new here,

my name is Ashley. I upload every single Monday. We sit down, we chit chat, we have a good time,

0:17.8

and I just talk about whatever is on my mind. Today's episode going to be more of like a sensitive one.

0:24.0

This might be one that is difficult for a lot of people to hear.

0:27.3

It's going to be difficult for me to talk about,

0:29.0

but I think it's a very important topic, especially with summer right around the corner.

We're going to be talking about my thoughts on Skinny Talk,

0:37.4

what Skinny Talk is, why I believe

0:39.5

it's harmful. But I do want to just put this disclaimer out that I'm not a doctor. I'm just a girl.

0:45.6

And these are my thoughts on Skinny Talk as someone who has struggled with an eating disorder.

0:51.2

I think talking about things like eating disorders can be very difficult

0:55.8

and you can get a lot of pushback because it is such a sensitive subject. But I think as someone

1:01.6

who has struggled with it and I'm now in my later 20s, I think as like an older adult, not an

1:08.6

older adult, I'm not like old, but like I think someone who has

1:11.9

gone through something like an eating disorder. We have the responsibility of speaking about this

1:18.0

and speaking about our experience for anyone who might be going through something similar

1:22.6

and has no idea what an eating disorder might look like or the things to look out for.

1:27.9

So I'm just going to give you my opinions, give you my take.

1:31.1

And if you agree, great.

1:32.7

If you don't agree, great.

1:34.3

But I hope you stick around and listen and you hear me out.
