I'm pleased to bring you Dan Arel, of danthropology.net, who is self-admittedly far, far left. While last week had me debating free speech with a more right-wing friendly Michael Shermer, this week I'll be debating from the other side. Dan, in my opinion, is quite extreme in his tweeting and online expression. I do not hide the fact that I disagree adamantly with a lot of what he has said, but I wanted to try to have a conversation because I imagined I might be a bit of a bridge since I agree with him that a lot of the atheist community is enabling the right while pretending not to. The resulting discussion I think was very productive and a must listen! Links: I found the Bill Maher thing, looks like from 2014 and then he changed his mind a year later. 0:39.0	And first off, before I get to today's show, which was a really excellent conversation I'm excited to give you,
0:45.9	there was a hoax paper published by James Lindsey and Peter Begosian.
0:50.6	It was intended to do too think, well it was intended to prove that the field of gender studies is bunk.
0:56.8	They didn't end up doing that and they kind of changed it. They shifted to it also showing the harm of predatory pay for play

1:10.3	So there's a lot to talk about there.
1:11.9	It's a huge issue it's blowing up. I've tweeted. I've Facebooked a lot about it.
1:15.0	But Eli and I did a record. First we did a recording where my plan was to record with him
1:22.0	and then record with James Lindsay and get both sides of it.
1:25.9	After recording with Eli for about two hours, during which I thought I was going to kind of
1:30.0	be Devil's Advocate, I thought I had a moderate position I could challenge him on.
1:33.6	He completely convinced me and I changed my mind completely.
1:37.3	And then we set about to record a tighter, shorter episode that was more concise in order to present the best possible
1:45.4	argument so that we could refer this to people who are touting this hoax
1:49.5	paper as Sokol version 2 or something that disproves all of gender studies.
1:55.4	So we've done that.
