After decades of research and billions of dollars spent in drug development, we still do not have really effective treatment for dementia.

The amyloid hypothesis has dominated pharmaceutical research. The FDA has approved three new drugs that reduce amyloid, but they don't cure the disease.

In the People's pharmacy health headlines,

epidemiologists are starting to call this winter's combination of influenza,

COVID-19, RSV, and neurovirus, a quademic.

And that does not include colds, which are also spreading.

It's a little more challenging than usual to track such infections because the CDC is

operating under communication restrictions.

However, the data that are available indicate that influenza A, respiratory syncytial virus, and COVID-19 have all been increasing

since Thanksgiving. Norovirus appears to be more active than it has been for several years.

This severe gastrointestinal infection can lead to dangerous dehydration and is extremely contagious.

We hope that people experiencing any of these conditions will be able to stay home and take care of themselves,

rather than trying to go on with their ordinary tasks and spreading the germs around.
