cognition. In the People's Pharmacy Health Headlines, a few years ago fish oil was all the rage.

That enthusiasm has dropped off dramatically because carefully conducted trials didn't support all the claims.

But a recent study suggests that some older people are less prone to Alzheimer disease if they take fish oil

capsules. Scientists at the Oregon Health and Science University

conducted the clinical trial with a hundred two volunteers at least 75 years old.

MRIs of the participant's brains at the start and again at the finish of the

three-year study showed fewer white matter lesions in those taking fish oil

instead of soybean oil but only for certain individuals those with the gene

for Apo E4 that predisposes people to Alzheimer
